Da Nang International Fireworks Festival

Picture this, a balmy summer’s night, Da Nang’s spectacular skyline and an International Fireworks Festival!  An all-round crowd pleaser that crosses the boundaries of age and nationality. There are no language barriers here just sit back with everyone else and ‘ooo’ and ‘ahh’ at the Da Nang skyline as it’s lit up like you’ve never seen before. On a regular night, DaNang’s skyline is impressive but top this with the Da  Nang International Fireworks Festival and it really is next level.

Now in its 11th year, The Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) takes place every summer. Over the course of five weekends in June and July, Da Nang locals, visiting Vietnamese, travellers, and firework enthusiasts from all over, come together for a spectacle of world-class pyrotechnics.

The International Fireworks Festival is an important part of Da Nang city’s efforts to promote tourism, and figures show that there were 1.5 million visitors to Da Nang during 2018’s festival.  So, get amongst it and join in this year’s festivities in June and July 2019 as Hidden gives you the lowdown on the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival.

When is the Da Nang Fireworks Festival 2019?

The official dates of the 2019 DIFF fireworks competition are June 1 (opening ceremony), June 8, June 15, June 22, and July 6 (grand finale). The show starts at 8 p.m. each Saturday during the festival and is complemented by a host of cultural events across the competition weekends.

Where to Watch the Da Nang Fireworks Festival

In past years, watching the fireworks festival was very easy. Multiple riverside locations provided excellent views and the only problem was navigating the busy streets, road closures and huge numbers of spectators. But for 2019, the organisers have made efforts to both improve the official viewing area and to restrict the view for non-ticket holders. However this being said, Da Nang’s modest number of high-rises and the scale of the fireworks show mean that good viewing points can still be found all over the city. Therefore here are some of the best.

DIFF Stand Area

Firstly festival-goers can buy tickets to a special viewing stand, situated on the banks of the Han River, directly opposite the launching area. The seating area holds 30,000 people, see below for details on tickets.

Da Nang Bridges and River Banks

Many people gather on Da Nang’s iconic bridges to see the fireworks being set off over the water. So you can find a spot on Bach Dang, or Tran Hung Dao, the roads that run alongside the water, to watch the displays. Viewing from these areas is free, but often crowded.

River Boats

For one of the best viewing experiences, jump on a boat and cruise up and down the river. Tickets to be on the water during the show start from 900,000 VND (39 USD) and it is definitely worth booking this popular option in advance.

Hotels and Rooftop Bars

Many hotels and rooftop bars in Da Nang have created special fireworks viewing packages. These range from ticketed entrance to parties like the one offered by 7 Bridges Brewing Company to private events at top hotels and even special hotel room packages with guaranteed fireworks views. The Novotel Premier Han River come highly recommended for this.

Son Tra Mountain

For a more adventurous viewing spot, head for the top of Son Tra Mountain to see the city lit up below and the fireworks exploding above. It is a unique viewpoint but don’t expect the regular oohs and ahhs of a fireworks show, your distance from the show reduces each firework to miniature. Note: this is a steep drive, made even more difficult at night. So come prepared.

Tickets for the Da Nang Fireworks Festival

Official tickets for the DIFF are available online and in person. However bars, boats and hotels mostly promote their fireworks viewing event on Facebook. Therefore booking in advance is highly recommended.

You can also buy tickets in person at the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center on the 3rd floor of 100 Nui Thanh St., the Da Nang Tourism Support Centre at 108 Bach Dang St., or at the Ticket Office of Sun World Da Nang Wonder at 1 Phan Dang Luu St.

Ticket prices for the Da Nang Fireworks Festival 2019 range from 300,000 VND (13 USD) to 2,500,000 VND (107 USD).

Da Nang Cultural Events

But the city of Da Nang and DIFF offers more than the amazing pyrotechnics taking place at night. Every Sunday from June 2 until July 7, Da Nang hosts a ‘Vibrant Street Festival’, an outdoor carnival set up along Bach Dang St. Therefore look out for street dances and parades, performances by local and international artists, flash mobs, art exhibits, and lots of delicious Vietnamese food and drink.
