Motorbike Rental Shops in Hoi An (Updated 2023)
Whether you are in Hoi An for a few days, weeks, or months, the first thing you are going to notice is that life is so much easier on a motorbike. Renting a motorbike will definitely add value to your trip as you’ll enjoy the autonomy, be able to visit remote places, have flexibility in the city, and save some time and money on taxis and private cars. However, finding reliable motorbike rental shops in Hoi An might feel similar to looking for a needle in a haystack.
Motorbikes are the mode of transport of choice in Vietnam. Used for everything from transporting entire families to carrying pigs, furniture, and bicycles! But don’t worry, Hidden has done all the hard work. Sorted through dozens of options and narrowed it down to the most reliable motorbike rental shops in Hoi An. So, if you’ve made up your mind on renting a motorbike, then read this guide to find your ideal dealer and rent one as fast and hassle-free as possible.

Motorbike Rental Requirements in Vietnam
All you need is a passport—and that is only if you do not wish to leave a security deposit for the motorbike. However, you may present all the legal documents you need to actually rent and ride a motorbike while in Vietnam.
Most companies will not ask to see your legal documents. However, in order to ride a motorbike in Vietnam, you are required by law to have a Vietnamese driver’s license or an International Driver’s Permit (IDP), which is recognised by the Vietnamese authorities.
Since it’s very easy to rent a motorbike in Vietnam, many decide to do it. This is the case even for those who don’t have proper documentation. However, the downside to this is that they aren’t covered in case of an accident or if pulled over for a document check. For more information, read Hidden’s Introductory Guide to Motorbike Rental in Vietnam.
Where can you Rent a Motorbike in Hoi An?
Renting a motorbike from a hotel
The first motorbike rental offer that you’ll receive in Hoi An is probably from your hotel or accommodation (Even if they don’t, then your concierge likely knows someone who is willing to rent theirs out to you). Renting from your hotel can be a nice, convenient option for riding around Hoi An. It can also be very inexpensive (as low as 115,000 VND, or 5 USD per day).
Keep in mind that most accommodations will not provide a rental agreement, and this leaves you vulnerable. A common issue you may face is being blamed for existing problems with the motorbike and then being left to cover the cost of repairs. As such, make sure to inspect the motorbike with your concierge before you use it and then take some pictures to be on the safe side.
Another downside is that hotels rarely, if ever, negotiate rental rates. So, if you are staying in Hoi An for a few weeks and are searching for the best rates, then you are probably better off renting from an independent vendor. They face greater competition and are willing to make better offers for long-term rentals.
Hiring a motorbike from a roadside rental shop in Hoi An
Another popular way to rent a motorbike in Hoi An is by approaching one of the many roadside rental shops. Here, you will probably find a greater variety of motorbikes available, so you can choose the best one for you. Also, at most of them, you will be able to bargain the price. Daily rates usually start at 115,000 VND (5 USD), but if you rent it for a few weeks, then these roadside rentals might be able to drop prices to as low as 50,000 VND (2 USD).
Hidden Hint: If renting for a few weeks, don’t forget to bargain! Most motorbikes are rented out at 1,000,000 VND (40 USD) per month. However, the longer the rental period, the higher the chances of negotiating this rate.
The problems with renting a motorbike from a roadside rental shop in Hoi An are similar to renting from a hotel. There is no rental agreement, the motorbikes are mostly old and not properly maintained, and there will be little support if you run into mechanical trouble. So, it would be best to expect motorbikes with scuffs and scratches.
Hidden Hint: Inspecting, testing, and taking pictures of the motorbike before renting it out is absolutely essential when renting from a roadside rental.
Look out for unstable mirrors and broken brakes. Check its horn, lights, speedometers, and/or fuel gauges. Use our guide which contains all the tips on how to inspect your motorbike before renting.
Hiring a motorbike from a reputable company in Hoi An
This is the most reliable option when it comes to renting a motorbike during your stay in Hoi An. These motorbike rental shops in Hoi An have a national network of stores and affiliated garages, well-maintained motorbikes, and 24/7 customer support. Most offer helmets, protective gear (e.g. gloves, knee pads, and elbow pads), luggage racks, bungee cords, phone holders, USB chargers, guided tours, downloadable maps, one-way rentals, and baggage transfer to your final destination.
Hidden Hint: Reputable motorbike rental companies are the safest shops for either long-term or short-term rentals in Hoi An.
Genuine rental companies offer new and well-maintained types of motorbikes. So, if you prefer an automatic or a manual (or just aren’t sure yet), then the rental company will be able to help you figure out the best option for you. Most of them have locations in numerous cities, allowing you to pick a motorbike up in one location and then drop it off in another. Don’t be put off by the security deposit (200 to 1,500 USD). You can easily leave your passport with them instead. (Just make sure that you get a few copies first when checking-in to a new hotel).
24-hour breakdown assistance
Most importantly, reputable motorbike rental companies provide help in the case of an accident or breakdown. They offer a 24/7 helpline, where an experienced English speaking mechanic will guide you step-by-step. Its customer service representative will also direct you to a nearby garage if needed. In case of a breakdown, you will usually be covered for the repairs (Just ask about engine repair reimbursement policies before you head out). Also, because rental companies have a maximum liability agreement, you are protected from covering costs if you get into an accident or if your motorbike is stolen.
Finally, most of them accept payments in a variety of ways: credit and debit cards (3% service fee), PayPal, OnePay (5% service fee), and cash (VND, EURO, USD, and GBP). In a country like Vietnam where paying with a card is a luxury, this couldn’t be more convenient!
Hidden Hint: If they have the available currency, most motorbike rental shops in Hoi An are willing to give back your deposit in USD, EURO, or GBP, even if you gave them VND upon booking.

We tried a one-way rental with Style from Hue to Hoi An, and we were very satisfied with its services. You can read more about our experience and what to expect when renting with them in this article.
Pros
Its motorbikes are brand new (2017 to 2019 models), dependable, and all equipped with phone holders and USB chargers for easy navigation. If you wish to ride in maximum safety, then it is the only store in town that offers world-class helmets and body protection equipment for sale. Its mechanics speak good English and will be happy to help you with anything you need. They will even take you for a small driving lesson to show you a few things about your new motorbike. Daily rentals start at as low as 230,000 VND (10 USD).
Cons
Its motorbike selection (nine models) and volume (50 motorbikes) are quite small compared to other companies. In high season, it might be difficult to find an available motorbike. Plus, if you are interested in guided tours or any other travel services, it will not be able to assist you as it specialises only in motorbike rental.

Flamingo Travel
Website – Address: 298 Cua Dai – Opening Hours: 8 a.m to 6 p.m – Phone: +84.912.214.554 – Email: info@flamingotravel.vn
Flamingo offer over 300 motorbike units, 26 different models, 20 years of experience, and four branches across Vietnam (Hanoi, Saigon, Hoi An, and Lao Cai). It also has English speaking mechanics and plenty of extra services. It claims to be the best motorcycle rental shop in Hoi An, so if you are looking for something more than just renting a reliable motorbike, then its 25+ guided and self-guided motorbike tours will allow you to travel across Vietnam.
Pros
Flamingo strives to offer a service level close to European/American standards. It has the best English speaking personnel we encountered in our research, a welcoming reception area that doesn’t look like a garage, and a variety of extra services to give you the royal treatment. In most cases, it brings and collects your motorbike from your hotel. If the need arises, Flamingo will also pick it up for repair. It offers free training courses to make you feel more comfortable with your new motorbike.
Flamingo’s daily rates are very competitive, and it also offers great deals on monthly rentals (920,000 to 1,380,000 VND, or 40 to 60 USD). However, what sets it apart from the competition is organised tours. Flamingo has a variety of all-inclusive guided and self-guided tours all over Vietnam on offer—and this includes everything: routes, stops, meals, and accommodation. You just have to choose if you would like to ride with a guide or by yourself.
Hidden Hint: If you’re travelling off the beaten track, then ask for its GoPro! Flamingo usually lends it to bloggers or experienced travellers for free and then uses your footage for its YouTube channel.
Cons
Although it offers the most extensive selection of motorbikes in town (26 models, from scooters to supermotos), it only has three models readily available (Yamaha Nouvo 125cc, Honda New Future 125cc, and Lifan CB 150 cc) in its Hoi An branch. If you wish to rent one of its other 23 models, then you will have to pay an additional 1,380,000 VND (60 USD) shipping fee. Moreover, for a one-way rental, sometimes there is a requirement of a drop-off fee (920,000 VND, or 40 USD). Make sure you factor these fees in when comparing prices!

Motorvina
Website – Address: 28 kiet, 439 Cua Dai – Opening Hours: 8 a.m to 9 p.m – Phone: +848 005 599 – Email: info@motorvina.com
Motorvina is a well-known and highly rated motorcycle rental shop in Hoi An, and it has the reviews to prove it. The company has a large presence throughout Vietnam, with four branches (Hue, Hoi An, Da Nang, and Phong Nha) and over 300 motorbikes in inventory. But what really set it aside from all the other stores is their online booking system. No email, no phone call, and no drop-in. You just have to fill out a booking form, pick any extra services or equipment you would like to have on your journey, and proceed to checkout! It couldn’t be easier and more convenient. It sounds like pretty standard service, right? But if you stay in Vietnam for a while, then you will begin to appreciate its services more!
Pros
Besides online booking, Motorvina truly tries to make your experience as simple and fun as possible. It offers a wide selection of motorbikes (13 different models) ideal for every kind of trip. It also offers the ability to drop your motorbike off just about anywhere (Hanoi, Ha Long, Ninh Binh, Phong Nha, Dong Hoi, Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An, Quy Nhon, Pleiku, Nha Trang, Da Lat, Mui Ne, and Ho Chi Minh City). They even offer a GoPro camera available for rent, so you can document the best parts of your trip. And, if you don’t want to ride alone, you will find information about the group tours they organise, along with some travelling tips, on its website.
Cons
Although there are well-rounded services on offer, almost all of them (protective gear, drop off, pick up, bag transfer, GoPro camera, and tool kits) – only available at extra cost. Its staff are really friendly, but not all of them speak good English. So it might be a little challenging to communicate when you visit them to pick up or drop off your motorbike.
Hidden Hint: Visit its website for the “Flash Deals.” It offers great discounts on selected motorbikes.
Motorbike Models: Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Win, and Honda, KTM Duke | 50cc to 373cc

Hoi An Bike Rental
Website – Address: 14 Cua Dai St or 34/14 Hung Vuong st – Opening Hours: 7 a.m to 10 p.m
Email: hoianbikerental@gmail.com
Hoi An Bike Rental bucks the trend of the traditional motorbike rental agency in Vietnam. It’s focus is safety and customer experience as opposed to aiming for the lowest cost or providing city-to-city riding. Its Hoi An base offers a motorbike range suited to all levels of experience.
Hoi An Bike Rental delivers its ethos through their bikes and includes extras. All their bikes are new or near-new – all within warranty. There are no concerns about reliability or safety when renting from this operation. In addition, they offer as standard what the competition regards (and charges) as extras. It sounds too good to be true but rent from Hoi An Bike Rental and you will appreciate how they do go the extra mile. The owner, Mike, is a Hoi An local who truly loves his home town and wants every visitor to have the best experience they can. Read the company TripAdvisor page to see what people think of the personal touch provided, almost all the reviews mention how well they got on with Mike.
Pros
What really sets Hoi An Bike Rental apart are the bikes which are all in perfect condition. Their inventory extends to 60 new or near-new bikes, offering 8 choices from fully automatic 50cc scooters through to 300cc sport motorcycles.
Great customer service starts before you begin your ride through convenient deposit options and drop off/pick up as standard. Rental includes 24/7 assistance including a fully charged mobile phone, medical kit and ponchos for sudden changes in weather. They also include customised Google Maps with an extensive list of the best local rides for you to load on to your phone. They have thought of everything, even a conveniently provided mobile phone holder on the handlebars. All of this is included within the basic price.
Cons
Their motorbike selection (8 models) and volume (60 bikes) is relatively small compared to national companies. In high season, you may be beaten to your first preference. But of course, you can always email ahead and reserve.
Secondly, credit and debit cards are not accepted meaning cash is your only option. On the plus side, they do accept all major currencies. These guys specialise in biking in and around Hoi An so if you are interested in city-to-city travel, then this is a field they have traditionally avoided. (This is mainly due to the fact that they want partners that match their ethos – although this is currently evolving).
Motorbike Models: Kymco, Honda and Yamaha I 50cc – 300cc
Daily Rental Rates: 180,000 VND (8 USD) to 780,00 VND (34 USD).

As it stands your only real options for renting larger capacity motorbikes in Vietnam are the Honda CB500x and the Royal Enfield Himalayan (410cc). Both are great touring bikes for Vietnam.
